POSITION TITLE: Community Engagement Coordinator
Pay: $42,000 – $46,000

The Durham Crisis Response Center (DCRC) is seeking a dedicated, full-time Community Engagement Coordinator to join our Crisis Services team in providing compassionate, trauma-informed support to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a pivotal role in advancing DCRC’s mission by overseeing community outreach, education, and volunteer engagement. This position will lead the recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers: individuals who are essential to our work and to the healing journey of those we serve. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, a passion for advocacy, and the ability to inspire and empower a diverse team of volunteers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Volunteer Recruitment, Training, and Management
· Develop and implement strategies to recruit volunteers from various community sources, including schools, businesses, and civic organizations.
· Update as needed and deliver comprehensive training programs to prepare volunteers for their roles in supporting clients, including adherence to strict confidentiality standards.
· Ensure all volunteers are knowledgeable about DCRC’s mission, services, and the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault.
· Conduct ongoing training and development sessions to keep volunteers updated on best practices and new developments in the field.
· Schedule and coordinate volunteer activities to meet the needs of clients and the organization.
· Provide regular supervision, support, and coaching to volunteers to ensure they are confident and effective in their roles.
· Maintain accurate records of volunteer hours, activities, and feedback.
· Work closely with programs to ensure volunteer success and tracking through the on-the-job training.
· Ensure all client records created by volunteers are current and that the data management system is accurately maintained for program tracking and reporting.
Client Support:
· Collaborate with staff to match volunteers with appropriate agency and client needs, ensuring a supportive and empathetic approach.
· Monitor and evaluate the impact of volunteer contributions on client outcomes and overall program effectiveness.
· Coordinate with staff for volunteer led donations.

Community Outreach
• Develop and nurture programs and community partners for the greater good of the agency and the survivors of Durham County.
• Ensure the visibility of DCRC within the community, especially during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and Human Trafficking Awareness Month.
• Champion resource fairs, community events, and educational opportunities throughout schools, universities, churches, medical centers, etc. to spread engagement in awareness month activities.
• Use these events to partner within the agency for development and volunteer recruiting opportunities.
• With permission, provide photos, stories, and other information for social media and marketing drives.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Required Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, human services, or a related field required; equivalent experience may be considered.
Preferred Education and Experience
· Master’s degree in social work, psychology, human services, or a related discipline is preferred.
· Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
· Two years of experience providing direct services, preferably in crisis intervention, domestic violence, sexual assault, or related advocacy work.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
While not required, an LCSW is recommended and preferred.

SUMMARY

Durham Crisis Response Center is seeking a dedicated full-time Crisis Case Manager to join our Crisis Services team in providing services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.

As a Crisis Case Manager, you will play a pivotal role in assessing client needs holistically addressing emotional, social, and practical concerns, offering essential information and referrals to clients and their families, and formulating safety plans. Your expertise will be central in identifying, addressing, and resolving client crises through effective intervention and emotional support. You will collaborate with internal staff, community partners, and social service agencies to ensure comprehensive, trauma-informed assistance while upholding the highest ethical standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Help Line

  • Operate and provide support for the 24-hour helpline.
  • Participate in the Staff-on-Call (SOC) rotation to ensure continuous support.
  • Provide hospital accompaniment during off-hours while on SOC duty.
  • Conduct thorough follow-up on helpline calls.

Case Management

  • Complete comprehensive intakes to gather essential client information.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans for clients, including housing, safety, and financial stability.
  • Offer direct assistance to clients on a walk-in basis, addressing both crisis and ongoing needs.
  • Utilize case management tools to deliver effective crisis intervention.
  • Participate in standardized case review meetings with the Crisis Center and Shelter teams to ensure a consistent, coordinated approach.
  • Ensure all client records are current and that the data management system is accurately maintained for program tracking and reporting.

Intern Program

  • Evaluate potential interns each semester; interview and collaborate with the Crisis Services director to determine placement.
  • Coordinate with the Outreach Coordinator to ensure interns complete basic training; create and implement individualized job training plans and weekly activities.
  • Monitor intern progress to ensure they receive appropriate hours and job exposure.
  • Ensure interns are trained and ready to complete case management tasks within four weeks of their start date.

Volunteer Opportunities

 

DCRC is in great need for bilingual Spanish speaking volunteers &/or interns to assist with our Immigrant Services program. The primary need is assistance with our 24-hr helpline during the weekdays. The helpline is the main access point for client assistance. Calls can range from basic information and referrals to crisis intervention and case management. We offer on-site and remote training for those that are interested. Scheduling is flexible.
