Our Services

24-Hour Help Line

We offer a confidential and free 24- hour help line.  Trained DCRC advocates provided support to victims of domestic, sexual and family and human trafficking. The advocates provide emotional support, safety planning, information and referrals. We also have a Spanish crisis line service.

Shelter

The shelter offers adults and children fleeing violent and dangerous situations a safe and supportive environment. The shelter is a place where they can recover from the effects of domestic, sexual or family violence. In the shelter clients are offered counseling, case management, legal assistance, housing and employment needs. Spanish-speaking staff and volunteers are available. ​

Legal Advocacy

Last year many of these clients also received support throughout the criminal or civil justice process, from the initial police response to prosecution. Working from offices on the second floor of the Durham County Courthouse, DCRC staff and volunteers provide court accompaniment, advocacy and assistance with protection orders.

Non-residential Services

Not all victims require or request residential services. DCRC staff and advocates can also assist with other services such as safety planning, crisis intervention, information and referrals, support groups, legal advocacy, assistance with filing for victim compensation, advocacy, etc.​

Hospital Accompaniment

Trained advocates from DCRC accompany sexual assault and domestic violence victims to local medical facilities for a physical exam, medical treatment, and forensic evidence collection. Staff members are available to meet individually with clients to address on-going needs for emotional support, information, and referrals to community mental healthcare providers.

Counseling and Support Groups

DCRC provides counseling referrals for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors. In addition, DCRC also provides support groups sessions in English and Spanish for clients who are currently or have previously experienced domestic or sexual violence. Support groups have included: Adult Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse, Rape 101/Myths and Facts, Reducing Your Risk of Sexual Assault, Recognizing Signs and Symptoms of Childhood Sexual Abuse, Reducing Your Child’s Risk for Sexual Abuse, Sexual Violence and Adult Survivors of Domestic Violence.

Community Education and Outreach

DCRC’s Community Education Staff each year make hundreds of presentations to professionals and community members. Workshops about domestic and sexual violence, sexual harassment and date rape prevention, and human trafficking are available for local community groups, churches, businesses and professional agencies, including local law enforcement, school system, and healthcare personnel. DCRC staff also provides the “Safe Dates” curriculum about healthy relationships to schools and youth groups free of charge.

Community Education and Training

Workshops about domestic and sexual violence, sexual harassment and date rape prevention are available for local schools, community groups and professionals, including local law enforcement, health and medical personnel. Rape Prevention Education

Rape prevention education impacts the attitudes, beliefs and behaviors that lead to sexual violence. Through programs, workshops, and trainings, DCRC is working to reduce the incidences of sexual violence in our communities. For more information please call 919-403-9425.

Durham County Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Response Teams

The Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT) and the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) are multidisciplinary teams of community members partnering together to provide inter-agency, coordinated responses to domestic and sexual violence. These teams build communication and collaboration between social service, healthcare, and criminal justice agencies to ensure a transition from victim to survivor for every individual whose life is impacted by domestic and sexual violence.
